Discover the beautiful colonial architecture and rich cultural heritage of the historic centre of Salta on this guided tour of the northern Argentine city.

Guided Tour of Salta

Between 9:30 am and 10 am, pickup will be provided from your hotel in the city centre or a designated meeting point. The tour begins at Salta Cathedral, known for its rose and yellow pastel tones. You'll learn about its construction following a devastating earthquake.

The cathedral is located at Plaza 9 de Julio, also home to the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology, the Cuchi Leguizamón sculpture, and the Cabildo of Salta, a well-preserved colonial building that housed local authorities for centuries.

Following a 5-minute walk, we arrive at the Church of Saint Francis, notable for its red-toned façade and the height of its tower, the tallest steeple in South America, at almost 180 feet.

The itinerary continues to the church of San Francisco and the convent of San Bernardo, which reveal Salta's historical context. A climb up San Bernardo hill offers panoramic views. At the hill's base, you'll see the monument to General Güemes, an important military leader from the Argentinian War of Independence. We will then explore the Quebrada de San Lorenzo and conclude at Salta's Artisan Market in a historic 19th-century building, returning to your hotel by approximately 1:30 pm.
