Discover the archaeological ruins of the Medieval citadel constructed in the first half of the 10th century by Abd-ar-Rahman III, the first Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba.

Medina Azahara Guided Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Paseo de la Victoria and travel by bus to Medina Azahara, located 8 kilometres (4.9 miles) from the city. Abandoned and looted 80 years after construction, it was discovered at the end of the 19th century. The site spans 276 acres (112 hectares) and is one of the largest archaeological sites in Spain.

Upon arrival, we'll visit the Medina Azahara Museum to explore the remains of the palace-city and learn about the site through a collection of artifacts. Then, a shuttle bus will take us to the archaeological site for a guided tour. We will uncover ten percent of the site, with a guide explaining features such as limestone walls, golden ceilings, and pools of mercury, which made the Medina Azahara a grand palace complex.

Experience the 10th century living conditions of the Caliph as we explore the fortified city, viewing mosques, towers, servants' quarters, bath complexes, and aristocratic residences. The total duration of the visit is 3.5 hours, concluding with a return bus trip to the meeting point in Cordoba.
