Visit the incredible Salinas Grandes salt flat on this day trip from Salta and admire a magnificent "white desert" in the middle of the Andean plateau.

Salinas Grandes Day Trip

Between 7 am and 7:30 am, we will leave Salta and head to the Quebrada del Toro. A short hike across its viaduct will offer views of the gorge in northern Argentina. Here, we will also see the tracks of the Tren a Las Nubes at over 4200 metres, one of the highest in the world.

Next, we will travel to Santa Rosa de Tastil and make a stop in San Antonio de los Cobres for lunch. Afterward, we'll visit other villages before reaching the Salinas Grandes, the third largest salt flat in South America. We will explore this stunning landscape at 4,000 metres above sea level, known for its whitish sodium chloride mixed with turquoise and brown tones.

On our return, we'll stop at Cuesta del Lipan and descend to Purmamarca to view the Cerro de los Siete Colores, or the "Hill of Seven Colours." After taking in the sights and visiting the craft fair in Purmamarca, we'll return to Salta, arriving by around 7:30 pm.
