On this guided tour of Al Hoota Cave, we'll explore a natural site in the north-east of Oman.
Tour Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance to Al Hoota Cave to begin the guided tour of this natural wonder located at the foot of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman. The cave is over 2 million years old and was formed by the dissolution of limestone by acidic water. This process continues to shape the underground landscape.
The Al Hoota Cave stretches over 4.5 kilometres, but only 500 metres are accessible to the public. The tour will showcase geological formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and columns developed over millions of years.
We will also visit one of the four lakes in the cave, which is 800 metres long and 15 metres deep. This lake is home to unique fish species, along with potential sightings of bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles.
After an hour, we will exit the cave, concluding the tour.
