Northern Ethiopia Private 9-Day Tour

Day 1: Addis Ababa

Upon landing at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be welcomed and taken to an Addis Ababa hotel for your first night.

Day 2: Addis Ababa - Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela

After breakfast, you will take a flight to Lalibela. Arriving in the northern Ethiopian city, you will visit the famous rock-hewn churches. A stop for lunch is planned at local restaurants, followed by visits to sacred temples like Biete Medhane Alem and Biete Meskel. You will return to your hotel in Lalibela for the night.

Day 3: Lalibela - Yemrehana Krestos - Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela

After breakfast, the group will head to Yemrehana Krestos, a pre-Lalibela cave church. Following lunch, the tour continues with visits to southeastern churches such as Biete Gabriel-Rufael and finally Biete Giyorgis before returning to the hotel.

Day 4: Lalibela - Asheton St. Maryam Monastery - Lalibela

Post-breakfast, there will be a 2-hour hike to the Asheton St. Maryam Monastery. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will observe local wildlife before returning to your hotel.

Day 5: Lalibela - Bahir Dar

After breakfast, you will drive to Bahir Dar, approximately a 6-7 hour journey, arriving for check-in and free time in the afternoon.

Day 6: Bahir Dar - Lake Tana - Ura Kidane Mehret - Blue Nile Falls

The day starts with a boat ride through Lake Tana to Ura Kidane Mihret Monastery before lunch. Next, you will visit the Blue Nile Falls and then the local market before returning to the hotel.

Day 7: Bahir Dar - Gondar

After breakfast, you will drive to Gondar, a 3-hour journey to explore the historic Fasil Ghebi site, including Debre Birhan Selassie Church. After the tours, you will rest at the hotel.

Day 8: Gondar - Simien National Park

Following breakfast, the group will travel to Simien National Park and hike at Sankaber for 2-3 hours before arriving at Simien Lodge.

Day 9: Simien National Park - Gondar - Addis Ababa

After breakfast, you will fly back to Addis Ababa for a panoramic tour before being dropped off at Bole International Airport.

Flights

This tour does not include international flights. Book your international flights to/from Addis Ababa on the same day as the tour start, with departures planned for the 9th day after 9:30 pm. All domestic flights from Addis Ababa to Lalibela and Gondar are included.
