Join us for a research expedition that takes you from Alghero to unveil the Necropolis of Puttu Codinu and Nuraghe Appiu. These two significant archaeological landmarks in Sardinia await your discovery!

Day Trip Overview

We'll convene at the Piazza della Mercede in Alghero, right in front of the church, to kick off our adventure. Are you prepared to explore the Necropolis of Puttu Codinu and Nuraghe Appiu? Let’s begin!

After approximately 40 minutes of travel, we will arrive at Villanova Monteleone, located in the northeastern region of Sardinia. This area is noteworthy for its stunning Mediterranean forest landscape.

Our first stop will be the Necropolis of Puttu Codinu. You might wonder about its unique name; this Pre-Nuragic site was established by Neolithic communities on two limestone formations. Here, you will discover nine Domus de Janas, which are burial structures adorned with sacred symbols and ancient carvings.

We will then proceed to the Nuraghe Appiu, a settlement from the Iron Age constructed using substantial volcanic stones. Overlooking the sea at the base of Mount Cuccu, this site holds numerous enigmatic secrets waiting to be explored. Let’s uncover them together!

After immersing ourselves in the archaeological treasures of Sardinia, we will head back to our original meeting point in Alghero, concluding this enriching 4-hour journey.
