Cherchell + Tipasa Day Trip
At 8:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Algiers and head to Cherchell, formerly known as Iol Caesarea, the capital of the Roman province of Caesarian Mauritania.
We'll begin with a tour of Cherchell to see its main attractions, including the port and the Martyrs' Square. Here, we will observe the façade of the El Rahman mosque or the 100 columns, which was originally the cathedral of St. Paul, built on an old Roman temple.
After this, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Cherchell, exploring the permanent exhibition featuring numerous sculptures and outstanding pieces from antiquity before taking a short walk to the Roman ruins of Cherchell. This site includes remnants of columns and architectural elements from the ancient Roman city.
Next, we will travel to Tipasa, where a lunch featuring grilled fish will be served. Following lunch, we'll explore the Roman site of Tipasa, a significant archaeological site on the Algerian coast, declared a World Heritage Site, showcasing Roman society and culture.
The final stop will be the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania on the outskirts of Tipasa, the resting place of the Berbers Juba II and Cleopatra Selene II. We will conclude with a return to your hotel in Algiers, scheduled for arrival between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
