Cherchell + Tipasa Day Trip
At 8:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Algiers and head to Cherchell, known in ancient times as Iol Caesarea, the capital of the Roman province of Caesarian Mauritania.
First, we'll tour Cherchell to see its key points of interest, including the port and the Martyrs' Square. Here, we will view the façade of the El Rahman mosque and the 100 columns, which was once the cathedral of St. Paul until 1574, built over an old Roman temple.
After the tour, we'll visit the Archaeological Museum of Cherchell to see the remains of its imperial past, followed by a short walk to the Roman ruins of Cherchell. This site features the remains of columns and architectural elements from the ancient Roman city.
We'll continue to the coastal city of Tipasa for a delicious lunch with grilled fish. After lunch, we'll visit the Roman site of Tipasa, a significant archaeological site on the Algerian coast, recognized as a World Heritage Site, showcasing Roman imperial society and culture.
The final stop will be at the outskirts of Tipasa to see the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania, where the remains of Berbers Juba II and Cleopatra Selene II are located. We'll return to your hotel in Algiers, with arrival scheduled between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
