Cherchell + Tipasa Day Trip
At 8:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Algiers and proceed to Cherchell, known in ancient times as Iol Caesarea, the capital of the Roman province of Caesarian Mauritania.
We'll tour Cherchell to see main attractions, including the port and Martyrs' Square. Here, we'll view the façade of the El Rahman mosque, formerly the cathedral of St. Paul, built on an old Roman temple.
Afterward, we'll visit the Archaeological Museum of Cherchell to see artifacts from its imperial past, followed by a short walk to the Roman ruins of Cherchell. This site includes remains of columns and other elements of the ancient Roman city.
Next, we'll head to Tipasa, where a lunch of grilled fish will be served. After lunch, we'll explore the Roman site of Tipasa, a major archaeological site on the Algerian coast, and a World Heritage Site that illustrates Roman society and culture.
Finally, we'll visit the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania, the resting place of Berbers Juba II and Cleopatra Selene II, before returning to your hotel in Algiers by approximately 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
