Cherchell + Tipasa Day Trip
At 8:30 am, pickup from your hotel in Algiers will commence, followed by a journey to Cherchell, an ancient Mediterranean port city known as Iol Caesarea, the capital of the Roman province of Caesarian Mauritania.
The tour includes key highlights of Cherchell, such as the port and the Martyrs' Square, where you can view the façade of the El Rahman mosque, formerly the cathedral of St. Paul until 1574, built over an old Roman temple.
Next, visit the Archaeological Museum of Cherchell to see artifacts from its imperial past. After the exhibition, proceed to the Roman ruins of Cherchell to explore remains of columns and architectural elements from the ancient city.
Proceed to Tipasa for lunch, featuring grilled fish. Afterward, visit the Roman site of Tipasa, a major archaeological area declared a World Heritage Site, to learn about Roman society and culture.
Conclude the tour with a visit to the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania, the burial site of Berbers Juba II and Cleopatra Selene II. The return to your hotel in Algiers is expected between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
