Explore Almeria's most important monument and the largest Arab citadel in Spain, the historic Alcazaba, a 10th-century fortress.
Itinerary
Meet your guide at the specified time on Almanzor street, outside the Alcazaba. This fortress, the biggest Arab citadel in Spain, was constructed in the 10th century and later updated by the Catholic Monarchs after the Reconquista.
Admire the remains of the Jayran Walls leading up to the Arab complex. Inside the Alcazaba, you will explore three different walled enclosures, guided by an expert who will provide historical context on Islamic Andalusia.
Stroll through the gardens of the first enclosure to reach the Muro de la Vela, or 'Wall of the Sail,' which once housed a significant bell for alerting the population. The second enclosure features the Odalisque's viewpoint, offering views of the city and the port.
The guided tour concludes with a panoramic view of the city and seaport from the Baluarte del Saliente. After photos, we will return to the Plaza de la Constitución to end the tour.
