Windmills Tour: Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam & Marken
The tour meets at the indicated time in the center of Amsterdam, where we'll board our bus to visit the famous windmills of Zaanse Schans and Westerland: the iconic image of traditional Holland.
Zaanse Schans is first, known for its windmills that played a key role in the region's industry during the 17th and 18th centuries. These windmills produced oil, paint, mustard, and paper. Visitors will have the chance to enter some to see their functions.
The area also features one of the country's iconic products: clogs. The tour includes a visit to a workshop that continues to produce this traditional footwear, historically significant for peasants and workers.
The tour continues to the towns of Edam and Volendam. Edam is renowned for its cheese and was once one of Europe's vital ports. Here, we will visit a dairy farm and sample its cheese.
Volendam is known for its vibrant atmosphere. Visitors can explore its picturesque streets and famous fishing port, with free time to eat and explore independently.
Next, we visit Marken, a fishing village located on a peninsula near Amsterdam, characterized by its traditional wooden houses and greenery, providing a historical ambiance.
