Ancud Free Tour
At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Calle Libertad to start this free tour of Ancud. This tour covers the former capital of the province of Chiloé.
We’ll begin at the Plaza de Armas, learning about the city founded by the Spaniards over 400 years ago, and viewing mythological sculptures that reflect Chilean beliefs.
We’ll visit the Cathedral of Ancud, built at the end of the 20th century after a tragic earthquake in 1960 caused the previous temple to collapse. The city’s religious culture will be further explored at the Museum of the Churches of Chiloé.
Next, we will proceed to the market, which offers fruit, vegetables, cheeses, and crafts. Our walk will lead us to the San Antonio Fort, built under orders from Carlos III for defense against enemies, where we’ll discuss the independence of Chiloé.
After a 2.5-hour tour, we’ll conclude at the Plazoleta Goleta Ancud.
