Day Trip to Mangaratiba & São João Marcos Archeological Park

On this day trip to Mangaratiba and the São João Marcos Archeological Park, we will explore the Atlantic Forest and visit a city in ruins.

Day Trip Details

We will meet at Av. Júlio Maria, number 16, and begin our journey towards the Serra do Piloto, a preservation area in Mangaratiba.

Our first stop will be the historical Estrada Imperial, built in the 17th century, where we will take a short walk to the Saco Bravo ruins, dating back to the colonial period.

Next, we will visit the Imperial Viewpoint for scenic views of the Serra do Mar.

The trip continues to the Cachoeira dos Escravos, a waterfall in the Atlantic Forest. This location has historical significance as it served as a resting place for enslaved laborers during road construction. We will also visit Emporio da Barreira to learn about local culture.

Afterward, we will move to the São João Marcos Archeological Park in Río Claro, an ancient city that was once affluent during the coffee boom and reopened as an open-air museum after being forgotten post a flood in 1940.

Finally, we will return to the meeting point in Angra dos Reis, concluding the tour approximately 8 hours after pickup.
