Pacaya Volcano Hike

In this activity, we'll hike up the Pacaya volcano and walk along its volcanic cone while admiring the lava rivers. We'll stop to toast marshmallows!

Description

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Antigua Guatemala. We'll then take a bus to San Vicente Pacaya in Escuintla.

After a 1 hour and 15 minute drive, we'll arrive at the town and start the hike up the slope of the Pacaya Volcano. The 1.5-hour trekking route includes learning about the history of this active volcanic cone. The volcano has had at least 23 eruptions since the arrival of the Spanish. You can enjoy views of the region.

Due to its eruptive activity, you'll see the lava firsthand. Along the hike, we'll stop to rest and toast marshmallows in the magma streams. After exploring the summit, we will walk for about 1 hour back to the village and take the bus back to Antigua Guatemala, arriving approximately 8 hours after the start.
