Why Visit Olympia?

Located at the foot of the Hill of Kronos and near the Alfeios and Kladeos rivers, Olympia is a key archaeological site in Greece, once home to a sanctuary dedicated to Zeus and the venue for the Olympic Games. The history of the Olympics began in 776 BC, and visitors can explore significant areas such as the Gymnasium and the Palaestra. Key features include the Olympic Stadium, with a track of 212 metres (695 ft) and a capacity of 50,000 spectators. The Temple of Zeus, housing a statue considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Temple of Hera, with the Olympic flame altar, can also be seen. Admission includes access to the Archaeological Museum of Olympia and the Museum of the History of the Ancient Olympic Games.
