Sistelo Hiking Trail

When you make a reservation, you have the option to select between two distinct experiences. For both trails, we will gather at Largo Visc do Rio Vez in Sistelo at the designated time. Each hike lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours and is guided in English, featuring a sampling of local delicacies at the conclusion.

Sistelo Hiking

We will commence with a guided exploration of Sistelo's streets, uncovering the hidden gems of the Portuguese Tibet, renowned as one of the country’s seven wonders.

Our journey will then take us to the Castle of the Viscount of Sistelo, where we'll discuss its historical ties to the Galician Pazos. Following this, we'll traverse the Roman bridge spanning the River Vez and observe the traditional Horreos, which are granaries characteristic of the northwest Iberian Peninsula. Following this exploration, we'll venture along the nearby paths to witness the region's iconic farming terraces.

Afterward, we'll ascend the hillside to a mountain shelter, learning about the life of the local shepherds.

Sistelo Walkways Hiking

Next, we will drive a short distance to Valdevez Arches. Upon arrival, our first stop will be the historic medieval bridge of Vilela, which dates back to the 13th century. This marks the beginning of our hike along the wooden walkways of Sistelo valleys.

The trail will lead us alongside the Vez River, where we will marvel at stunning waterfalls and diverse vegetation, including strawberry trees, beeches, birches, and oaks. There's a good chance we may also spot otters or salamanders. Throughout the hike, the guide will share insights into the agricultural connections with neighboring Galicia.
