Tacna & Arica Day Trip
Day 1
At 10 pm, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa and take you to the bus terminal. We will travel to the city of Tacna, arriving at 5 am the next day.
Day 2
Upon arrival in Tacna, you will have free time for breakfast. Then, we will head to the bus terminal to take a bus across the border into Chile.
After a 1-hour drive, we will reach the modern city of Arica. Our exploration starts with the Morro de Arica for panoramic views of La Lisera and Chinchorro beaches and the Christ of Peace monument. We will tour main monuments, including the train station, the colonial-style Post Office, 21 de Mayo Street, Plaza Colón Square, and St. Mark's Cathedral, designed by architect Gustave Eiffel.
After lunch, we return to Tacna, which belonged to Chile until 1929, to visit the 18th-century Zela House and the Vigil Passage, site of the Act transferring Tacna from Chile to Peru.
We will also see the Municipal Theatre, San Martin Street, the Civic Promenade, the Parabolic Arch, honoring War of the Pacific heroes, and the Ornamental Pillar. The tour includes Tacna's neo-Renaissance cathedral and the parks of Bolognesi Alameda and Locomotora, where original train pieces are displayed in the Railway Museum.
Finally, we will return to Arequipa, dropping you off at your hotel at 5 am.
