St George's Castle & Monastery of Agios Gerasimos Tour

Join us to discover two of Kefalonia's most important historical treasures on this trip to the Castle of St. George and the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos from Argostoli.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Argostoli and start our journey to the Castle of St. George and the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos.

First, we'll make a short stop at the viewpoints next to the Katavothres Ferris wheel and the historic lighthouse of Argostoli.

Next, we will visit the village of Kastro to discover the Castle of St. George, a fortress built in the 12th century and completed in the mid-16th century. This castle is located on a hill 320 metres (1,049 feet) above sea level and features two parts with an inner courtyard shaped like a horseshoe, along with coats of arms of Venetian rulers.

After touring the castle, we will proceed to the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, known as one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Kefalonia. We will explore its hermitage and enter 2 underground rooms via a narrow path.

To conclude this experience, we will visit the Vasilakis Culture boutique for an aperitif of typical products including wine, olive oil, and traditional sweets. After 4 hours in total, we will end the activity at the starting point.
