With this tour, you'll travel through the Azapa Valley and learn about the history of Arica, located on the Chilean coast.
Arica + Valley of Azapa Tour
Between 9 am and 10 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in Arica and transfer you to the historic center. There, we will embark on a walking tour through the main areas of the town.
The tour begins with a walk along the beaches of Chinchorro and Las Machas, followed by a visit to the St. Mark's Cathedral, built during the time when the city belonged to Peru. Next, we will stop at the Museo de Sitio Colón 10 to see the remains of an ancient cemetery of the Chinchorros, the pre-Columbian people of the region.
We will continue past The Arica House of Culture and the railway station that connected with La Paz. The city tour will conclude at the Morro de Arica, offering views of the city center and the Pacific coast.
After the city tour, we will head to the outskirts to visit the Azapa Valley and observe the geoglyph land art of Sombrero Hill. We will also visit the Museum of San Miguel de Azapa to learn about the Chinchorro mummies.
Lastly, we will stop at a farm in the Azapa Valley for a tasting of local olives. Following this, we will return to your hotel in Arica, arriving by 2:30 pm.
