Aymara Region 6-day Tour

On this tour from Arica, we will travel for 6 days through the Aymara community region of northern Chile, crossing one of the most spectacular areas of the altiplano.

Aymara Region 6-day Tour

Day 1

At the specified time, pickup at your hotel in Arica will occur, followed by a visit to the Presencias Tutelares. A stop at the Apacheta viewpoint precedes travel towards Codpa, including a visit to the Wine Museum and a picnic lunch. The route continues through the Vitor ravine to Guañacagua and the church of San Pedro. In the afternoon, we will explore the valley’s crops, view the petroglyphs of Cerro Blanco, and enjoy vistas from the Vizcachani ravine before dinner and overnight at the rural lodging in Caragua.

Day 2

Following breakfast, a trekking route lasting 6 to 8 hours involves visiting mountains used for ceremonial offerings, including the Tangane and Pukare mountains. A picnic break will be included. The day ends with a picnic dinner and overnight at the inn in Caragua.

Day 3

We will visit Belén for its churches and the archaeological site of Guayguarane, discovering the Tambo sector with ancient Zapahuira colcas. A choice between a trekking route along the Inca trail or Calvario hill follows. Traditional Aymara meals will be offered. Dinner and overnight will be at a rural house in Socoroma.

Day 4

After breakfast, we will proceed to the viewpoint of Putre, followed by a stop at the viewpoint of Chucuyo. Next, we visit the Cotacotani Lagoons and, subsequently, embark on a short trekking route at Chungará Lake. Dinner and overnight will be at a rural lodge in Parinacota or Chivatambo.

Day 5

A visit to the Chinchillani hill and the Surire Salt Flats follows, along with a trip to the Chilcaya Lagoons. The day includes an option to visit the Polloquere hot springs. Dinner and overnight will be in either Parinacota or Chivatambo.

Day 6

The tour will conclude at the area of Caquena and Cospilla, with a visit to the colorful mountains of Suriplaza. Options include admiring the mountains or a trekking route measuring 16,732, 17,060, and 17,388 feet above sea level. Post-lunch, we will visit the Cardones Ravine and conclude with a stop to see the geoglyphs and colcas of the Lluta sector before returning to your hotel in Arica in the late afternoon.

Accommodation and meals

All stays occur in shared rooms in rural houses, with dinner and breakfast included. Lodging may vary based on availability or weather. Lunches consist of a picnic served during tours.
