Would you like to learn how Colombian cuisine is sweetened? If so, you'll love our Panela Tour! We'll set off from Armenia and take a fascinating journey through sugar cane plantations - perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Panela Tour
At 8 am, we'll meet you at your hotel in Armenia and set off on the 1-hour 30-minute drive to an agricultural farm.
Upon arrival, we'll explore the sugar cane plantations from which panela is extracted, a natural sweetener used in various typical Colombian desserts and drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo, and chicha.
We will learn about the panela production process, where canes are crushed in mills called trapiches, followed by moulding and beating until a solidified block of panela is formed. Workers at the farm will explain this process step by step.
After familiarizing ourselves with this ingredient, we will travel to a local nature park for a relaxing hike, followed by free time for lunch and exploration.
You will be dropped off back at your hotel at 4 pm.
