Would you like to learn how Colombian cuisine is sweetened? If so, you'll love our Panela Tour! We'll set off from Armenia and take a journey through sugar cane plantations.
Panela Tour
At 8 am, we'll meet you at your hotel in Armenia for a 1-hour 30-minute drive to an agricultural farm.
At the farm, we'll explore the sugar cane plantations where panela is extracted, a natural sweetener used in many Colombian desserts and drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo and chicha.
We will learn about the production process of panela, including the crushing of canes in mills called trapiches, followed by molding and beating to create solid blocks of panela. Farm workers will explain this process step by step.
After learning about this important ingredient in Colombian cuisine, we will travel to a local nature park for a relaxing hike and some free time to have lunch and explore.
You will be dropped off back at your hotel at 4 pm.
