Explore the rich culture and craftsmanship of the communities in Risaralda on this journey to Guática and Quinchía departing from Armenia.

Journey to Guática & Quinchía

At the specified time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Armenia and begin our northward journey into the department of Risaralda. The travel time to Quinchía will be approximately three hours, where our first destination awaits.

In this municipality, embraced by hills—which is reflected in its name, Villa de los Cerros (Villa of the Hills)—we will visit the archaeological museum, Tierras de Xixarca. This prominent institution showcases fascinating artifacts created by the Quimbaya, an indigenous tribe that resided in the area until the 16th century.

Following this, we will tour a filigree workshop, witnessing local artisans as they skillfully employ this traditional goldsmithing method to produce characteristic crafts. Next, a delightful meal featuring typical regional cuisine will be provided, including a main dish and a beverage. After lunch, our travels will continue as we proceed to Guática, traversing the beautiful northern landscapes of Risaralda.

Arriving in this village, established by indigenous communities in 1638, we will gain insight into the silk production process, one of Guática’s renowned specialties. The community members will guide us in understanding the plants that sustain the silkworms, which eventually yield this valuable resource. Artisans skillfully transform this silk into handcrafted textiles.

You'll have some leisure time for shopping if desired, before we conclude our trip by returning to Armenia, where you will be dropped off at your hotel after a total of nine hours.
