Thinking of doing a safari near Arusha? Discover Lake Manyara National Park from a 4x4 with an English-speaking guide and drive through the village of Mto Wa Mbu to get a taste of traditional Tanzanian life.
Lake Manyara Safari
The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha, heading first to the village of Mto Wa Mbu. Here, you will learn about Tanzanian culture in a village home to nearly 120 different tribes. The community relies on agriculture, particularly rice and bananas, and cattle raising, with local food stalls and artists present.
After visiting Mto Wa Mbu, you will proceed to Lake Manyara National Park, designated a Biosphere Reserve in 1981. The park features diverse ecosystems including semi-arid areas, swamps, and forests of acacia and baobab.
Wildlife in the park includes elephants, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, baboons, and approximately 400 species of birds. Notably, Lake Manyara National Park is known for its unique tree-climbing lions, with guides sharing insights about this behavior.
In the afternoon, you will return to the vehicles and be taken back to your hotel in Arusha.
