Mount Meru 5 Day Trek

Day 1

Meet at the airport for transfer to the hotel in Arusha. We'll meet the expert trekking guides to discuss safety guidelines during the ascent. Dinner at the hotel and rest for the next day's adventure.

Day 2

After breakfast, prepare trekking equipment and set out for Momela Gate, the entry point to Mount Meru Natural Park. A forest ranger will accompagner us. Along the ten kilometre (6 miles) route, observe elephants, zebras, giraffes, monkeys and antelopes in their natural habitat. After six hours of trekking, rest at the Miriakamba Hut camp, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 3

The second day features the steepest climb, traveling eight kilometres (5 miles) along the peak of Mount Meru. Expect views of the mountain's crater. Enjoy a hot meal at the Saddle Hut, with an optional short hike to the top of Little Meru for sunset views. Dinner at the camp and rest.

Day 4

On the third day, trek over five kilometres (3 miles) to reach the summit of Mount Meru. Admire views of Kilimanjaro and the crater. After a meal at the Saddle Hut camp, descend thirteen kilometres (8 miles) on arid trails, spending the night and having dinner at the Meriakamba Hut camp.

Day 5

Conclude the trek with a descent through meadows and forests. Enjoy wildlife along the ten kilometre (6 miles) route to Momella pass in the late morning. Return to Momella Gate, then transfer to Arusha hotel for dinner and rest.

For the first and final night, accommodations will be at the Maura Apartments & Lodges in Arusha.
