Matera Excursion

We'll pick you up at your hotel in Ascea and board a bus to Matera. Upon arrival, we will explore the historic center of Matera, one of the oldest in the world, including the renowned Sassi di Matera, which have been inhabited since the Paleolithic era.

We will walk through the districts of Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, discovering the highlights of this World Heritage city, along with its history, creation, evolution, and expansion.

During the guided tour, we will visit the Church of Santa Chiara, Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, and the Cathedral of Matera, showcasing Apulian Romanesque architecture.

Participants will have free time to explore local cuisine for lunch and can optionally visit some of Matera’s rock churches (not included), such as the Church of San Pietro Barisano, Church of Santa Maria di Idris, and Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve.

At the end of the tour, we will return to the bus to conclude the excursion twelve hours after departure.
