Assisi Guided Tour

The city of origin of St. Francis of Assisi is an important pilgrimage location for many, but it also surprises those who are not believers. We'll spend three hours walking around the city and learning about the founder of the Franciscan order and the order of Saint Clare.

We'll meet in the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti to begin our Assisi guided tour. Inside, we will learn more about the life of Saint Clare, where the remains of the saint rest.

Our next stop will be the Chiesa Nuova, built on the site of St. Francis of Assisi's family home. The three portals that provided access to the house and the ground floor where he worked are preserved.

The tour continues to the Temple of Minerva, located in Piazza del Comune, dating back to the first century BC. Initially built in honor of the goddess of war, it was later converted into a church.

After the temple, we will visit the Upper Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, dedicating half an hour to each. Both are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Upper Basilica has a bright and spacious character, while the Lower Basilica is darker and more limited. We will explore its chapels and the crypt containing the remains of St. Francis.

The tour will conclude outside the Lower Basilica of St. Francis after touring the main corners of the city.
