Assisi Guided Tour

The city of origin of St. Francis of Assisi is a significant pilgrimage location. We'll spend three hours walking around the city to learn about the founder of the Franciscan order and Saint Clare’s order.

We'll meet in the Piazza Giacomo Matteotti to begin our Assisi guided tour. Here, we will learn about the life of Saint Clare, whose remains rest in the location.

Our next stop will be the Chiesa Nuova, built on the site of St. Francis's family home. The original three portals and the ground floor where St. Francis worked are still preserved.

The tour continues to the Temple of Minerva in Piazza del Comune, dating back to the first century BC. Initially built in honor of the goddess of war, it was later converted into a church.

Next, we will visit the Upper Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, dedicating half an hour to each. These buildings are part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Upper Basilica features a bright interior, contrasting with the darker Lower Basilica. We will explore its numerous chapels and the crypt housing St. Francis's remains.

The tour concludes outside the Lower Basilica of St. Francis, after visiting the key sites of the city.
