Discover the Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangüé on this excursion departing from Asunción.
Excursion to the Jesuit Missions
At 12:01 a.m., we will collect you from your accommodation in Asunción to embark on an exploratory journey to the Jesuit Missions of Trinidad and Jesús de Tavarangüé. During this adventure, you will uncover the rich history of these Guaraní settlements established in the 17th century.
Traveling in a comfortable private vehicle, we will journey for approximately six and a half hours to reach the missions. Along the route, you will enjoy the scenic views of Paraguay's tropical landscape and take a pause for breakfast to energize for the day ahead.
Our first stop will be the Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná, renowned as the largest and best-preserved Guaraní settlement in the country. Here, you can explore the village layout, which features a central square and the most significant church constructed among the Jesuit reductions. It is no surprise that this site was designated a World Heritage Site in 1993.
Next, we will proceed to the missions of Jesús de Tavarangüé, located in Itapúa. This reduction is notable for the initiation of one of the largest churches of its era, although its construction remained unfinished due to the Jesuits' expulsion in 1768 by Charles III of Spain.
Post-exploration, we will travel to the city of Encarnación, where a buffet lunch or a complete menu awaits you at the Hotel Papillón de Bella Vista. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to wander along the Costanera, indulge in shopping, or relax at San José beach.
Our excursion wraps up at 6 p.m., as we begin our return journey to Asunción. You will be dropped off at your hotel around 11 p.m.
