Why Visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus?
The Temple of Olympian Zeus, also called the Olympieion, was constructed between 470 and 456 BC and was one of the largest religious buildings in the ancient world. It was originally supported by 104 Corinthian columns, with only 15 remaining today. The structure measures 180 metres (590 feet) long and 40 metres (131 feet) wide. A once monumental gold and ivory statue of Zeus no longer exists.
