Tour Details

At the indicated time, pickup will be arranged from your hotel in Auckland as we embark on a day trip to Hobbiton and Rotorua.

As we travel south, interesting facts and stories about New Zealand's biggest city will be shared, complemented by views of iconic points of interest along the route.

During the journey, we’ll cross the Waikato countryside, one of the largest agricultural areas in the world. Expect to see big mountains, various friendly animals, rushing rivers, and stunning scenery. Be sure to capture those moments!

Our first stop will be Hobbiton, the iconic film set for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Here, we will spend 2 hours exploring The Shire, visiting the 44 hobbit holes and gardens while uncovering behind-the-scenes film secrets. A drink at the legendary Green Dragon™ Inn will also be included, allowing for a relaxing moment with a hobbit beer by the fireside.

Next, we will head to Tirau, known as the World Capital of Wrought Iron. This village, with its unique wrought iron sculptures, is sure to bring a smile to your face. There will also be time for a food stop if you wish to grab a bite before continuing to Rotorua.

Upon arrival in Rotorua, a guided tour of the stunning Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland will await. Here, we will be captivated by the beauty of Lake Champagne, Devil's Bath, mud pools, and geothermal craters. The vibrant colours and unique formations are sure to leave an impression, making it feel like you’ve stepped onto another planet!

A scenic drive around Rotorua's landmarks, including Lake Rotorua, the Rotorua Museum, the Government Gardens, Whangapipiro Spring, and the Blue Baths will follow. If time allows, a stop at a local shop for Manuka honey tasting and souvenir shopping will be included to round off the experience.

Finally, we will return to the departure point in Auckland, completing the tour approximately 13 hours after the start.
