The legacy of the Roman Empire in this region is still present in Nîmes and Pont du Gard. Follow all the traces of antiquity with this Provence Roman history tour.

Description

Pickup is scheduled at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon. After an hour, we will arrive in Nîmes, a notable city of Roman origin in Provence.

The key Roman monument is the Arenas de Nîmes amphitheatre. An English audio guide will be provided for self-exploration. Gladiator competitions took place here, and it is now one of France's busiest bullrings. After your visit, there will be a brief stop at the renowned Maison Carrée temple.

The tour continues to Pont du Gard, one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in Provence. You will have free time to admire the monument and visit the Pont du Gard Museum, gaining insights into Roman engineering.

Before returning, we will stop in Orange, which features two ancient monuments from the 1st century BC, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Roman Theatre is a highlight.

We will depart from Orange and return to Avignon, arriving at the starting point 8.5 hours after the initial pickup.
