The legacy of the Roman Empire in this region is still very much present in Nîmes, Pont du Gard, and Uzès. Follow all the traces of antiquity with this Provence Roman History Tour.

Description

We'll pick you up at the indicated time at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon. After an hour, we'll arrive in Nîmes.

The most important Roman monument in the city is the Arenas de Nîmes amphitheatre. An English audio guide will be provided for your self-exploration. Gladiator competitions were held here, and today it serves as one of the most popular bullrings in France. After your visit, we will stop briefly in front of the Maison Carrée temple.

The next stop is Pont du Gard, a well-preserved Roman aqueduct. You will have free time to admire the monument, and if desired, you can visit the Pont du Gard Museum to learn about Roman engineering.

We will then continue to Uzès, allowing time to explore the Provencal village of Roman origin. Notable sites include Place aux Herbes and the Tour Fenestrelle.

Before returning, we'll stop in Orange, renowned for its ancient monuments, including the Roman Theatre, both dating back to the 1st century BC and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

From Orange, we'll return to Avignon, arriving back approximately 8 hours after the initial pickup.
