The legacy of the Roman Empire in this region is still very much present in Nîmes and Pont du Gard. Follow all the traces of antiquity with this Provence Roman history tour.

Description

Pickup will be at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon. After one hour, the tour will arrive in Nîmes, a notable Roman city in Provence.

The tour's first stop is the Arenas de Nîmes amphitheatre, where an English audio guide will be provided for a self-exploration. Similar to the Coliseum in Rome, it hosted gladiator competitions and is now a prominent bullring. Following this, there will be a brief stop at the Maison Carrée temple.

The next destination is Pont du Gard, a well-preserved Roman aqueduct. Participants will have free time to admire the structure and can optionally visit the Pont du Gard Museum to learn about Roman engineering.

Prior to returning, the tour will include a stop in Orange, an ancient city with two significant monuments from the 1st century BC, designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Roman Theatre.

The return to Avignon will occur approximately 8.5 hours after the initial pickup.
