The legacy of the Roman Empire in this region is present in Nîmes, Pont du Gard, and Uzès. Follow the traces of antiquity with this Provence Roman History Tour.

Description

Pickup is at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon. After an hour, you'll arrive in Nîmes, known for its Roman heritage.

The main Roman structure is the Arenas de Nîmes amphitheatre, where gladiator competitions were held. An English audio guide will be provided for self-exploration. A brief stop will be made at the Maison Carrée temple.

The next destination is Pont du Gard, a well-preserved Roman aqueduct. You'll have free time to admire the site, with the option of visiting the Pont du Gard Museum to learn about Roman engineering.

The tour proceeds to Uzès, a Provencal village of Roman origin. Suggested sites include Place aux Herbes and Tour Fenestrelle, the tower of the Saint-Théodorit cathedral.

Before returning, a stop will be made in Orange, which features two significant ancient monuments from the 1st century BC, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Roman Theatre is a highlight.
