Tour of Avignon and Luberon

Are you a history buff? Don't miss this guided tour of Avignon! After a walk through the town's historic centre, we'll move on to a tour of the villages of Luberon.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at rue de la République for our guided tour of Avignon. The walking tour lasts 3 hours and starts in the Avignon Bridge area, where we'll learn why this footbridge never crosses the Rhone River. We'll then visit the gardens of the Rocher des Doms and the old walled area of the city.

Next, we will tour the Palace of the Popes, learning about the Popes who challenged Roman rule, viewing the sacred works of art, and discovering the secrets of this papal residence.

Following the Papal Palace, we'll continue to significant landmarks such as Place de l'Horloge, the town's Theater, and City Hall. At the end of the tour, you will have an hour of free time for lunch. Afterward, we'll reconvene in the historic centre and begin our drive to the villages of Luberon.

We will pass the ancient Roman bridge of Pont Julien before arriving at Rousillon for a stroll through the medieval town. The tour continues to Lacoste for a quick stop at scenic viewpoints and concludes with a visit to Gordes before returning to Avignon, arriving about 9.5 hours after meeting.
