Tour to Pachapupum Volcano

With this excursion to the Pachapupum volcano, you'll visit the famous volcano in Sacsamarca and bathe in its mineral-rich pools!

Tour Details

We'll meet at the Plaza de Armas at the indicated time. A bus will take us to Sacsamarca, a cattle district south of Ayacucho.

During the 4-5 hour road trip, we'll stop in Condorccocha for a leg stretch and breakfast on your own. Then, we'll stop again in Huanca Sancos for those without a picnic lunch to purchase food.

Upon arriving at the Pachapupum volcano, we'll walk to the top via natural steps formed by erosion. At the summit, you can view the impressive crater measuring 10 meters in diameter, where geothermal heat causes the water to boil.

There are also small wells around the crater, rich in minerals such as salt and sulfur, formed by erosion thousands of years ago. You will have the opportunity to bathe in these hot springs—remember to bring your swimsuit.

We will take a break for lunch, after which we'll return by bus to Ayacucho, with an expected arrival at the departure point at 18:00.
