The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady of Baeza of Jaén is a World Heritage Site. You'll discover its history with this guided tour.
Tour Details
The guided tour of Baeza Cathedral will start at the Puerta de la Luna, where we'll appreciate the exterior architecture of this European Renaissance architecture masterpiece designed by Andrés de Vandelvira. We will learn about its unique charm and nuances during the visit.
After observing the exterior, we'll enter the interior, where the beautiful chapels stand out. Many chapels were commissioned by noble families from Baeza. The Capilla Dorada (Golden Chapel) is notable, especially for its altarpiece, regarded as one of the city's greatest artistic treasures.
We will visit the Cathedral Museum, which displays reliquaries, processional books, and sacred art objects, showcasing the cathedral's historical and artistic evolution. The highlight is the 'processional monstrance', made of gold and silver, used to protect and display the Blessed Sacrament during processions, ranking among the top three works of rococo goldsmithing in Spain.
The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, after which you may revisit the parts of the cathedral that interest you independently.
