The Cathedral of the Nativity of Our Lady of Baeza is a World Heritage Site. This guided tour will explore its history.
Tour Details
The guided tour of Baeza Cathedral begins at the Puerta de la Luna, where the exterior architecture of this significant European Renaissance structure can be appreciated. Designed by Andrés de Vandelvira, the monument features distinctive elements that will be explained during the visit.
After observing the exterior, the tour proceeds inside. The cathedral's beautiful chapels are particularly notable, many commissioned by noble families from Baeza. The Capilla Dorada (Golden Chapel) is highlighted for its exceptional altarpiece, recognized as one of the city's main artistic treasures.
The tour continues with a visit to the Cathedral Museum, showcasing reliquaries, processional books, and other sacred art. The collection's centerpiece is the 'processional monstrance', a gold and silver work essential for displaying the Blessed Sacrament during processions, ranking among the top three examples of rococo goldsmithing in Spain.
The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes, after which participants can revisit their preferred areas of the cathedral independently.
