Upon reservation, you can choose from two options. Both meet at Carrera 2 in Bahía Solano at the indicated time.

5-hour tour

The tour starts with a brief introductory talk about humpback whales, followed by a walk to the beach of Ciudad Mutis to embark. If it’s low tide, transportation to the dock of Bahía Solano will be by tuk-tuk or minibus.

During the journey, we will share interesting facts about these cetaceans, and if conditions allow, we will use a hydrophone to listen to underwater whale sounds. We will also look out for dolphins, turtles, sailfish, sharks, or seabirds. A snack consisting of lemonade or iced tea with cheese bread or a croissant will be provided on board.

After 3-4 hours of whale watching, we will return to the starting point. Total duration is between 4 and 5 hours depending on tides.

8-hour tour

This option follows the 5-hour itinerary and continues to Playa Mecana. If the tide is high, we will sail to the mouth of the Mecana River, exploring the lush mangrove forest. If low tide, we will disembark and walk to the river.

The tour includes a typical lunch at the home of two Mecana community natives, featuring freshly caught fish, patacones or yucca, rice, salad, and soup.

After lunch, we will rest and then go tubing on the Mecana River before returning to the starting point. The total duration will depend on the tides.

Bahía Solano is one of the best locations in the Colombian Pacific for sightings of humpback whales and dolphins. However, sightings are unpredictable and depend on weather and breeding seasons.

Marine research tour

Optionally, you can participate in a marine research tour, assisting marine biologists with cetacean samples.
