Whale Watching in Bahía Solano
When you make your reservation, you can choose one of the following options. In both options, we'll meet at Carrera 2 in Bahía Solano, in the tourist area of Ciudad Mutis, at the indicated time.
5-hour tour
After a brief introductory talk about humpback whales at the meeting point, we'll walk to the beach of Ciudad Mutis to embark. In case of low tide, we'll travel by tuk-tuk or minibus to the dock of Bahía Solano.
During the journey, we'll learn about cetaceans and may use a hydrophone to listen to the sounds of the whales underwater. We'll also look for other marine animals, such as dolphins and turtles. A snack will be provided on board, consisting of lemonade or iced tea and a cheese bread or croissant.
After 3-4 hours of whale watching, we'll return to the starting point. The total duration of the activity will be between 4 and 5 hours, depending on the tides.
8-hour tour
If you choose the 8-hour option, after the 5-hour itinerary, we'll continue to Playa Mecana. If the tide is high, we'll sail to the mouth of the Mecana River. We'll explore a mangrove forest and enjoy a typical lunch prepared by members of the Mecana community, including freshly caught fish and sides.
After lunch, we'll relax on the riverbank before tubing on the Mecana River. Following tubing, we'll navigate back to the starting point, with total activity duration depending on the tides.
Whale watching
The coast of Bahía Solano is ideal for observing humpback whales and other cetaceans. However, sightings depend on factors like weather and breeding seasons.
Marine research tour
For those interested in marine biology, you can opt for the marine research tour, where you'll assist marine biologists in sampling cetaceans in Bahía Solano.
