The raids of the pirate Francis Drake, the news of the Discovery of America, and other famous stories await you on this free tour of Baiona, one of the most beautiful villages in Pontevedra.
Tour Details
We'll begin this free tour of the Galician town of Baiona at the indicated time at the arches of the Paseo Ribeira, in front of the Tourism Office.
Firstly, we'll stroll around Mount Boi to view the walls and battlements of Monterreal Castle, a medieval fortress built for protection. The site also houses the Parador del Conde de Gondomar.
During our walk, we'll learn about La Pinta, a ship of Christopher Columbus that brought news of the discovery of the New World, and recall the pirate incursions on the Galician coasts, including those by Francis Drake.
Next, we'll discover the history of Pedro Madruga and head to the historic centre of Baiona. There, we'll pass by Casa de Correa and Casa del Perdón and explore why this town was seen as a jewel of the Crown. Additionally, we'll view old photos that illustrate Baiona's past.
Finally, after 2 hours, we'll conclude the tour back at the meeting point.
Groups
This free tour doesn't admit groups of more than 6 people, even with separate bookings. For larger groups, a private tour of Baiona is recommended.
