Description
At the appointed time, we will meet at Pozo da Aguada to start the private tour of Baiona.
The tour begins on the seafront promenade, where we will enjoy the view of Mount Boi and the castle of Monterreal, which is now a Parador de Turismo Hotel.
Next, we will see the Virgen de la Roca, a 49 feet (15 metres) high monument, and visit the house of Pedro Madruga, an important historical figure in Baiona.
We will also discuss how the news of the Discovery of America arrived in Baiona via La Pinta, one of Christopher Columbus' ships, and mention the invasions by pirates and corsairs like Francis Drake.
Our next stop will be the old town of Baiona, where we will explore its narrow streets and key buildings, including the Ex Collegiate Church of Baiona and the church of Santa Liberata, significant on the Camino Santiago pilgrimage route.
Finally, we will return to the promenade to see the statue of Alfonso IX, concluding the tour after two hours of sightseeing.
