Our adventure begins at Burgalimar Castle: a formidable stronghold of Umayyad origin perched on a hill in Baños de la Encina, located in the province of Jaén.

This guided exploration of Baños de la Encina Castle lasts approximately 45 minutes, allowing us to step inside this remarkable historical site and closely examine its robust walled enclosure. As we navigate its sturdy defensive structures, we will delve into the rich history of this stronghold, which played a vital role during the Andalusian era at the gateway to the Guadalquivir valley. Throughout the Middle Ages, this strategic location was the scene of conflict between Muslim and Christian forces.

Not far from the castle, in 1212, a pivotal battle, the Battle of Navas de Tolosa, unfolded between these factions.

As we appreciate the impressive battlements of this fortified site, we will also tour the Torre del Homenaje: an additional lookout constructed after the Christian reconquest of this region. The visit concludes with insights into other noteworthy features of this extraordinary fortress.
