Yumuri Canyon Day Trip

  • 8 Stunden

Discover the landscapes of the Yumurí River on this trip from Baracoa, passing through a canyon and visiting Punta de Maisí, traveling through taro, coffee, and sweet potato fields.

Day Trip Details

You will be picked up from your hotel in Baracoa at the designated time to explore the protected natural area surrounding the Yumurí River, onboard an off-roading vehicle.

During the journey, you will experience the tropical forest and the region's rich vegetation, passing by coffee, taro, sweet potato, and yam fields. Information about local life and soil conservation practices will be shared.

Once at Yumurí, you will embark on a boat trip, offering views of the canyon walls that rise up to 200 meters (656 feet) on either side of the river, extending to the mouth of the river into the Atlantic Ocean. You will learn about the Indigenous community's naming of the river.

You will cross the river along its only navigable section, which is 300 meters (984 feet) long, and have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in one of the natural pools along the river.

Next, you'll visit Punta de Maisí, the easternmost point in Cuba, where you can spot the iconic lighthouse known as "La Concha." On clear days, views of Haiti are sometimes visible from its highest point.

The tour concludes with a typical Cuban lunch at the hotel Faro de Maisí, wrapping up after a total of 8 hours before returning to your hotel in Baracoa.
