Discover the landscapes of the Yumurí River on our trip from Baracoa. The journey includes a visit to Punta de Maisí, traveling through fields of taro, coffee, and sweet potatoes.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up from your hotel in Baracoa at the designated time and travel into the protected natural area surrounding the Yumurí River in an off-roading vehicle. During the journey, we will explore the tropical forest and pass fields of coffee, taro, sweet potato, and yam, while learning about local life and soil conservation.
Upon reaching Yumurí, we will embark on a boat trip to view the tall canyon walls that rise up to 200 metres (656 feet) on either side of the river, extending to the mouth of the river at the Atlantic Ocean. You will discover the origin of the river's name from the Indigenous community.
We will navigate the river's only traversable section, measuring 300 metres (984 feet), where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pools along the river.
Next, we’ll head to Punta de Maisí, the easternmost point in Cuba, to see the iconic "La Concha" lighthouse. On clear days, the highest point offers views of Haiti.
We will conclude the trip with a typical Cuban lunch at the hotel Faro de Maisí. After a total of 8 hours, we will return to your hotel in Baracoa.
