Chicamocha Canyon Hiking Tour

Description

We will meet at Barichara's main park and take a minibus to Villanueva, a journey lasting about two hours.

Upon arrival at Villanueva, we will head to Alto de Martha, the starting point for a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) hike through Chicamocha Canyon.

The hike includes routes through Macaregua, Mesa de los Santos, and the town of Aratoca. We will stop at the Rancho Alegre viewpoint for a panoramic view of the canyon.

During a short break at this viewpoint, we will discuss the landscape's evolution over centuries. This site is nominated as one of the Natural Wonders of the World.

Our trek involves immersing in the canyon's vegetation, observing its river, and spotting birds and monkeys. We will also see cobblestone paths built by German engineer Geo von Lengerke during the colonial era.

As the hike is demanding and spans 5 hours, we will stop for a picnic that includes a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and water.

After the picnic, we will continue to the town of Jordan, where our minibus will await. The total duration of the activity is approximately 9 hours, returning to Barichara at the end.
