Cerro Catedral Hike

Enjoy a day hiking through beautiful Patagonia along a hillside path to Refugio Frey, a mountain lodge 5500 feet above sea level. You have a choice of two possible routes.

Tour Options

Catedral Ridge Route

We'll pick you up from your hotel and head to the foot of Cerro Catedral mountain. Here, you can purchase a cable car ticket (not included) and ascend for 40 minutes with panoramic views. Once at the summit, over 6500 feet high, we will hike on rocky terrain for two hours with views of Cerro Tronador and the Andes.

We will reach "the cancha de futbol" and descend to the lagoons of Schmoll and Toncek. After a circuit around the lagoons, we will arrive at Refugio Emilio Frey for a picnic lunch. The lunch includes a sandwich, a piece of fruit, and a cereal bar. We will then descend along a traditional path, covering 10 km (6 mi) through forests, before returning to Bariloche in about 9 hours.

Traditional Hiking Route

This option begins similarly until we reach Cerro Catedral mountain. Instead of taking the cable car, we trek the traditional route. We will ascend gradually for four hours through forests and streams, enjoying views of Lake Gutierrez and Cerro Ventana.

The hike continues through the valley of Arroyo del Van Titter, concluding at the Refugio Emilio Frey after 10 km (6 mi). Lunch will again consist of a sandwich, fruit, and a cereal bar. We will return via the traditional track, taking between 2.5 to 3 hours, finishing in Bariloche, approximately 9 hours after departure.
