Itinerary
At the scheduled time, you'll be collected from your hotel in Barranquilla and brought by minibus to the city centre to follow in the footsteps of the famous writer Gabriel García Márquez. During the tour, we'll unveil the novelist's life in this city that he called home from the age of 8, and visit some of his frequented spots from the 1950s.
The first stop will be at the old headquarters of the El Heraldo newspaper, where he began his path into journalism as a columnist and reporter. Walking on the Paseo Bolívar, we'll reach the New York Skyscrapers and discover its link to the Nobel Prize.
To delve into the author's personal life, we'll visit Perpetuo Socorro church, where he married his first love Mercedes in 1958. We'll recount their love story and make our way to the River Quartermaster's Office to see the famous Yellow Butterflies monument erected in honour of the writer.
Through the Caribbean Cultural Park, we'll see the statue of Gabo in honour of the novelist's years in Barranquilla. We’ll continue to the El Prado neighbourhood, where Gabriel took Mercedes on their first date.
Nearby lies the old Museum of Fine Arts, where García Márquez frequently visited and met Pedro Biava, inspiration for Pietro Crespi in Cien Años de Soledad.
The last stop will be at La Cueva, a cultural bar where Gabo debated with his intellectual friends. Here, we'll enjoy a refreshing local drink before returning to the hotels, after 4 hours.
