Itinerary
You will be collected from your hotel in Barranquilla and transported by minibus to the city centre to follow the footsteps of Gabriel García Márquez. The tour reveals the novelist's life in Barranquilla, where he lived from age 8, and visits significant locations from the 1950s.
The first stop is the old headquarters of the El Heraldo newspaper, where he began his journalism career. Walking on the Paseo Bolívar, you will reach the New York Skyscrapers, linked to the Nobel Prize.
Next, visit Perpetuo Socorro church, where he married Mercedes in 1958. The tour will also include the River Quartermaster's Office to see the Yellow Butterflies monument, honoring the writer.
At the Caribbean Cultural Park, find the statue of Gabo commemorating his time in Barranquilla. Then, head to the El Prado neighborhood, where Gabriel took Mercedes on their first date.
Nearby is the old Museum of Fine Arts. García Márquez’s visits led him to meet Pedro Biava, who inspired the character of Pietro Crespi in Cien Años de Soledad.
The last stop is La Cueva, a bar where Gabo debated with friends. Here, you'll enjoy a refreshing local drink before returning to hotels after 4 hours.
