Castano River Mines Private Trip
Pick-up will occur at 10 am at your hotel in Barreal in a 4x4 jeep. The trip begins with a visit to an old gold mine north of Calingasta, where the process of gold extraction will be explained.
The journey continues by ascending the Timbirimbas hill in the 4x4 vehicle, with views of the Andes in the background. Afterward, the trip involves wading through the Castaño River in the 4x4.
On the opposite side of the river, there will be a visit to the Castaño Nuevo mines, where gold and silver reserves were found in the 19th century. Although now disused, during the 1950s and 1960s, they were operational, and over 800 houses were built for miners and their families. The dike built over the Castaño River gorge will also be observed for better area access.
After the mining history tour, a picada de campo (picnic lunch) will be provided in nature. Following lunch, the return to the city will include more Andean landscapes. A brief break for a light snack out in the open will be taken midway. The trip concludes with a return to your hotel in Barreal, arriving around 10 pm.
