Pickup will be at 10 am at your hotel in Barreal in a 4x4 jeep. The first destination is an old gold mine north of Calingasta, where the process of gold extraction will be explained.

The trip continues with an ascent on Timbirimbas hill in the 4x4 vehicle, with a view of the Andes in the background. The journey includes wading through the Castaño River in the 4x4.

On the other side of the river, visit the Castaño Nuevo mines, where gold and silver reserves were discovered in the late 19th century. Though now disused, these mines were operational in the 1950s and 1960s, supporting over 800 houses built for miners and their families. The dike over the Castaño River gorge will also be observed.

After learning about the mining history of San Juan province, enjoy a picada de campo—a picnic lunch in nature. Following lunch, head back to the city, appreciating additional Andean landscapes.

A short break for a light snack will be taken halfway through the trip. The return to your hotel in Barreal is expected by 10 pm.
