Higüey & Sugar Cane Fields Safari

Sugar cane plantations, tobacco, tropical fruits, and one of the most colorful markets in the Dominican Republic await on the Higüey safari. Let's go!

Safari Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel. We'll board a safari truck and head to the city of Higüey, which takes around 40 minutes.

Upon arrival, we will explore the traditional market for 45 minutes, visiting fruit, vegetable, and meat stalls, followed by a visit to a cigar factory to learn about the production process.

Next, we will continue our safari through the sugar cane plantations of Bayahibe. We will discuss the various uses of sugar cane and observe life in nearby settlements. Additionally, we will learn how the trapiche system transforms sugar cane into Dominican rum.

We will then visit a typical ranch for lunch by the river, enjoying food such as cocoa, manioc, tropical fruits, and Dominican salami. A drink will be provided, with options including soft drink, rum, or water.

Before returning to La Romana, we will take a boat ride along the river and have the opportunity for a refreshing dip.

The day trip concludes with a drop-off at your hotel after a total of 8.5 hours.
