Agreste Paraibano Cultural Tour

On this cultural tour of Agreste Paraibano, we'll explore Brazil's colonial history and architecture in Areia's countryside.

Tour Details

At the designated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa and travel to Areia, approximately a 2.5-hour journey.

Upon arrival in Areia, recognized as historical by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, we will take a guided tour through its narrow streets lined with 18th and 19th-century buildings.

Next, we will visit the Pedro Américo House Museum, dedicated to a prominent Paraíba artist, followed by a stop at the Casarão José Rufino de Almeida, the first mansion in Vila Real de Areia, where we'll learn about its inhabitants and their trades.

We will then head to Budega do Vavá for a selection of spirits, artisanal cachaças, and traditional sweets like Rapadura. Our tour continues to Minerva Theatre, the first in Paraíba and a site of 19th-century abolitionist movements.

A 1.5-hour lunch stop at rural restaurant Vó Maria will showcase traditional cooking methods. Afterward, we will visit the Cachaça and Rapadura Museum, formerly a sugar mill, to see historical machinery.

We will also learn about Cachaça Triunfo production, with tastings of cane sugar juice and cachaça ice cream available, along with an opportunity to purchase local products. The tour concludes at Casa da Farinha Pôr do Sol, where we will enjoy a northeastern Brazilian sunset.

Finally, we will return to the bus for the journey back to João Pessoa and drop you off at your hotel, completing a total of 13 hours.
