Day Trip to Pedra do Altar

On this day trip to Pedra do Altar, we'll hike around this archaeological site featuring ancient rock art and visit the natural pools of Paraíba River.

Day Trip Details

We'll pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa at the designated time and drive to the location for a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 miles) hike surrounded by nature. The trail leads to the Paraíba riverbed, traversing the caatinga biome, recognized as the only 100% Brazilian biome. Along the way, we'll stop at archaeological sites where Tupi Indians have left visible records, including red ink inscriptions.

Upon concluding the trail, we reach the impressive Pedra do Altar, located near waterfalls and natural ofurôs—small pools formed by the river. After some time to relax by the waterfalls and pools, we'll retrace our steps to the site's restaurant, providing you with free time for lunch if desired.

After lunch, we'll return to your hotel in João Pessoa, concluding the trip approximately 12 hours after pickup.
