Day Trip to Pedra do Altar

On this day trip to Pedra do Altar, we'll hike around this archaeological site featuring ancient rock art and visit the natural pools of Paraíba River.

Day Trip Details

We will pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa at the designated time and drive to the beginning of a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 miles) hike. We will walk along a trail leading to the Paraíba riverbed, located in the caatinga, the only biome that's 100% Brazilian. Along the way, we will stop at archaeological sites where the Tupi Indians settled, observing red ink inscriptions that document their existence.

At the end of the trail, we will arrive at the imposing Pedra do Altar, near waterfalls and natural ofurôs—small pools formed along the river. After time to relax by the waterfalls and natural pools, we will return along the same trail to the site's restaurant, providing an opportunity for lunch.

After re-energizing, we will return to your hotel in João Pessoa, concluding the trip approximately 12 hours after pickup.
