Day Trip to Pedra do Altar

On this day trip to Pedra do Altar, we'll hike around this archaeological site featuring ancient rock art and visit the natural pools of Paraíba River.

Day Trip Details

We will pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa at the designated time and drive to the starting point for a 1.5-kilometre (0.93 miles) hike. This trail leads to the Paraíba riverbed, which traverses the caatinga, the only biome that is 100% Brazilian. Along the way, we will explore archaeological sites where the Tupi Indians settled, observing red ink inscriptions that confirm their presence.

Upon completing the trail, we will arrive at Pedra do Altar, characterized by waterfalls and natural ofurôs—small pools along the river. After some time to relax, we will retrace our steps to the site's restaurant, where you will have the option to purchase lunch.

After re-energizing, we will return to your hotel in João Pessoa, concluding the trip approximately 12 hours after pickup.
