Details of the Excursion

Are you eager to discover one of the largest Indigenous groups in northeastern Brazil? If the answer is yes, we will pick you up from your accommodation in João Pessoa at the scheduled time, and our adventure will begin towards the Potiguara Indigenous Reserve.

Over the course of a 2-hour and 15-minute ride, we will travel along the coast of Paraíba, admiring its lush landscapes while exploring the history and cultural practices of the Potiguara people. We will examine the ancient Tupi language, along with traditional dances, ceremonies, and art forms.

Our first stop will be at the ruins of the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, established by Jesuits in the 17th century. Inside, you'll discover the somber history of Indigenous enslavement and their coerced conversion to Christianity. Following that, we will proceed to the Gozo River, a picturesque waterway embraced by thick tropical greenery, safeguarded by over 50 Indigenous families residing in the vicinity.

Next, we will visit a local village where you have the option to enjoy a bite to eat before we continue to Aldeia São Francisco, recognized as the mother village. Here, we will wander through the village and observe the daily lives of the Indigenous community. You'll get a chance to visit the communal space, known as the Oca, where they host meetings, celebrations, and various dances.

Are you ready for the next highlight? We will head to Enchanted Lake, where you will uncover the mystique behind its name as we tour the area and even visit a local home. This day will conclude with opportunities for engagement with the locals and, if you desire, trying a snack made from yuca and grated coconut—truly a delightful treat!

Ultimately, we will commence our return journey, bidding farewell at your hotel after a fulfilling 12-hour day.
