Exploring Bayonne: A Culinary Journey
Join us at the central Place de la Liberté at the designated meeting time, and embark on your culinary journey through the charming city of Bayonne!
We’ll start with a brief introduction before strolling through one of the most picturesque cities in the French Basque Country, where the local gastronomy will delight your senses. Our first stop will be the Les Halles Market, where you can enjoy a variety of fresh fish and seafood, complemented by a refreshing glass of wine. En route to the market, admire the stunning architecture of St. Mary Cathedral.
Next, we will visit the oldest trinquets (Basque ball courts) in France. This unique venue includes a restaurant where we will sample an array of local tapas and cured meats, accompanied by another glass of wine. As we indulge, we’ll explore the traditional Basque ball game that continues to thrive in this region.
Our culinary exploration will then lead us to a traditional Basque cider house, where you’ll taste goat's cheese paired with quince jam while enjoying a refreshing glass of cider. Here, you will have the unique experience of pouring the traditional Basque cider, known as Sagarnoa, directly from the barrel!
Finally, we will visit one of Bayonne's renowned bakeries, where you will savor a traditional Basque cake as the concluding delight of our tour. While in the bakery, situated in the historic heart of the city, we’ll finish with a freshly brewed espresso, the perfect companion to our sweet treat.
The enticing aroma of the coffee, combined with the rich and complex flavors of the cake, will provide a delightful conclusion to our 3.5-hour food journey through Bayonne.
