30 years of conflict at the cost of thousands of people. What was it for? What were those ideals that were more important than life and death? On this tour of Belfast, you'll discover the places that were scarred by the Northern Ireland troubles, a significant political milestone of the 20th century.
Belfast Political Tour
Imagine yourself in Belfast in the 20th century. The bombs and gunshots have become routine, and the military has taken control of the streets in response to ongoing violence. You face a choice: side with the Republicans or the Loyalists. Who are you with?
A republican ex-prisoner will welcome you at the starting point. You'll walk along Falls Road, where walls pay homage to the conflict. Listen to the guide's personal history while admiring almost 2000 representations of peace and liberty, including notable figures like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela depicted in poignant drawings.
In the second part of the tour, a loyalist ex-prisoner will describe the repercussions of the conflict on their side of the divide. You'll pass through the gates separating the factions and head down the renowned Shankill Road, hearing first-hand accounts from local residents who wish to remain part of the United Kingdom.
You can leave your dedication on the Wall of Peace, as distinguished figures like Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama have done.
After experiencing a range of emotions, the tour concludes at Lower Shankill Road after 3 hours.
