Located at 53-55 Crumlin Road, Crumlin Road Gaol offers a self-guided tour enriched with audio and visual displays. Your experience begins with a video presentation from Judge Mathews in the introduction room.

As you navigate the gaol, you will encounter its impressive tunnel, guided by a hologram of Officer Roberts. Visit the C-Wing where recreated cells and holographic prisoners reveal life for over 25,000 former inmates. Video interviews with ex-prisoners provide insights into their experiences.

For those interested, an optional visit to the condemned man's cell includes insights on the execution process. Afterward, explore the grave site of executed prisoners and other exhibits.

History of the Crumlin Road Gaol

Opened in 1845, Crumlin Road Gaol was Northern Ireland’s most advanced prison. It played a significant role during the Troubles, housing notable detainees such as Éamon de Valera and Bobby Sands. The prison operated under "The Separate System" and witnessed 17 executions, with the last in 1961. After closing in 1996, it was renovated and reopened as a tourist attraction in 2012.

Opening Hours

Crumlin Road Gaol is open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm, with final admission at 4 pm.
