Full Itinerary of Your Visit

Located at 53-55 Crumlin Road, Crumlin Road Gaol offers a self-guided tour enriched by interactive audio and visual displays. Your visit begins in the introduction room with a video by Judge Mathews detailing the prison’s history. You will explore the tunnel connecting the gaol to the courthouse, guided by a hologram of Officer Roberts.

Visitors will walk through C-Wing, observing recreated cells and hearing video interviews with ex-prisoners. An optional visit to the condemned man's cell includes a hologram explaining the execution process. Afterward, you can explore the grave site and view a Westland Wessex helicopter.

History of the Crumlin Road Gaol

Crumlin Road Gaol opened in 1845 as Northern Ireland’s most advanced prison, detaining Republicans and Loyalists during the Troubles. It housed up to 550 prisoners and witnessed 17 executions, the last in 1961. The prison closed in 1996 and reopened in 2012 as a tourist attraction.

Opening Hours

Crumlin Road Gaol is open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm, final admission is at 4 pm.
