Full Itinerary of Your Visit

Crumlin Road Gaol, located at 53-55 Crumlin Road, offers a self-guided tour featuring interactive audio and visual displays. The experience starts with an introduction video by Judge Mathews, covering the prison's history.

Visitors will navigate through important areas, including the tunnel to the courthouse, described by a hologram of Officer Roberts. The Gaol Circle introduces the Governor, sharing stories of the prison.

In the C-Wing, explore recreated cells and holographic representations of over 25,000 former inmates. Video interviews provide insights into life inside the gaol.

An optional visit to the condemned man's cell includes a hologram explaining executions. Visitors may choose to skip this section.

Outside, visit the grave site of executed prisoners, view the matron’s house, and a Westland Wessex helicopter.

History of the Crumlin Road Gaol

Opened in 1845, Crumlin Road Gaol was designed to hold up to 550 prisoners and operated under "The Separate System." It detained key figures during the Troubles and witnessed 17 executions. After closing in 1996, it reopened in 2012 as a tourist attraction.

Opening Hours

Crumlin Road Gaol is open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm, with final admission at 4 pm.
