Palms Desert Natural Park Trek

We'll meet at the Interpretation Center of Desierto de Las Palmas to begin our trek through the Natural Park. Prepare to encounter beautiful views of Benicassim!

We will first learn about the flora of the park at the Information Center, using explanatory models to understand the area's nature and fauna.

Following that, we will proceed to the viewpoint of the hermitage of Carmen for a panoramic view of the area, with visibility of the Columbretes islands on clear days.

We will then ascend along Porteria Vella, admiring the reddish constructions erected by monks, and learn about the area's naming as the Desert of the Palms, specifically noting the palmitos, the only endemic palm species in Europe. The Carmelitas order chose this site for spiritual retreat.

The trek continues up to the Bartolo, which, at over 2300 feet, is the highest point in the park. Here, we will visit the hermitage of San Miguel and take in the views of the bay of Benicassim and surrounding areas.

Finally, we descend back to the starting point, concluding our hike through the Palms Desert after five hours.
