Experience the extraordinary natural beauty of Castellón through this adventure to the St. Joseph's Caves. Gain insight into the fascinating history of these caves while navigating along an underground river.
St. Joseph's Caves Exploration
We will gather at the specified time in front of the Benicassim Tourist Office. A minibus will take us on a 50-kilometer journey to Vall de Uxó, where the remarkable St. Joseph's Caves await. Known in Valencian as Coves de Sant Josep, this cave system is a true geological treasure and has rightfully earned the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our journey begins aboard a boat, as we glide 800 meters along the underground river and take in the vastness of the caves. Keep an eye out for ancient rock paintings and the fossils embedded within the formations, which serve as reminders of the cave's early inhabitants over 15,000 years ago.
Next, we will proceed on foot through a 250-meter dry section of the caves, gaining a closer look at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites. An interesting detail to note is that the caves consistently maintain a temperature of 20ºC all year round, regardless of the season.
After 40 minutes immersed in this underground wonder, we will exit the caves and return to the minibus. Our journey back to Benicassim will conclude the tour, lasting a total of 4 hours and 45 minutes.
