Traiguera & Cervera del Maestre Guided Tour

At 8:45 am, we will meet at the Benicassim Tourist Office and board the bus to Traiguera. There, we will visit an estate with thousand-year-old olive groves and learn about the production of olive oil in the Valencia region.

We will walk through the orchards to see the Sinfo Olive Tree, one of the oldest in Europe, awarded for its significance in 2018. Participants will learn about the cultivation of olive trees and partake in an olive oil tasting paired with typical cold meats.

After the tasting, we will travel to Cervera del Maestre and visit the Oil Mill Visitor Centre to explore regional traditions associated with olive groves. Following our visit, we will spend approximately 1 hour touring Cervera del Maestre, known for its medieval castle, which is of Arab origin and was constructed for defense during Spain's Reconquest.

Our final stop will be at the Royal Sanctuary Virgen Fuente de la Salud in Traiguera, designated an Asset of Cultural Interest. This site, the only one classified as 'Royal' in Castellón, dates back to Charles V. We will discuss its history and explore various elements of the site, including the hostelry, priests' house, kitchens, and chapel.

The day trip will conclude between 2:15 pm and 2:45 pm at the meeting point.
